The inaugural edition of the Europe Top 12 tournament brought together most of the leading players at the time. 21-year-old Hungarian Istvan Jonyer, displayed a sensational performance, finishing the tournament unbeaten and winning all 11 games. Yugoslav stars Antun Stipančic and Dragutin Šurbek won the silver and bronze medals in front of the home crowd.
