The 2020 champion in the singles event – Ma Long did not take a part in this competition, so other leading table tennis players had a chance to win their first Olympic gold. The reigning World champion – Fan Zhendong excelled and won the gold medal after confidently beating the Swedish sensation Truls Moregardh in the final. The young Frenchman Felix Lebrun had a great running, winning the Olympic bronze at the age of 17.
