Janos Takacs was born 5 December, 1954 in Hungary.
In 1979, he became a World champion in team event. Takacs is a 4-time Hungarian champion – twice in doubles and mixed doubles events. On professional circuit, Takacs won one singles title in his career. On club level, he won 5 Hungarian Extraliga and three ETTU Cup titles, as well as one German Bundesliga and Champions League title.
