Istvan Jonyer was born 4 August, 1950 in Miskolc, Hungary. He was one of the members of the Golden Generation of Hungarian table tennis in 1970’s, and one of the best players in the world at the time. He was the World Ranking leader back in 1975.
Jonyer won 4 World Championships titles in his career, twice in doubles, once in singles & team events. He also is a 4-time European champion, twice in doubles & team events. Hungarian star won two Europe Top 16 tournaments. On the professional tour circuit, Jonyer won 4 singles and 12 doubles titles in his career. On the national level, he is a 25-time Hungarian champion – 11 times in doubles, 8 times in mixed doubles and 6 times in singles event. On the club level, Jonyer won 7 Hungarian Extraliga, three Austrian Bundesliga, 4 Champions League and two ETTU Cup titles.
