Evgueni Chtchetinine was born 1 February, 1970 in Minsk city, Soviet Union (now Belarus). He started to train in table tennis at the age of 10.
He is a 2-time European Champion – once in team and doubles events. On club level, Chtchetinine won one Soviet Higher League, German Bundesliga and Russian Premier League title.
