The history of the European Championships started back in 1958 when Hungary hosted the first ETTC tournament. For the most part, it has been dominated by German and Swedish table tennis players, such as Timo Boll, Jan-Ove Waldner, Dimitrij Ovtcharov, and others. German table tennis legend Timo Boll is by far the most successful player in the European Championships history with 20 gold medals.
