Max Marinko was born 16 September, 1916 in Ljubljana, Austria-Hungary (now Slovenia). Throughout his career, Marinko represented three different national teams.
He was a 2-time World champion in team event. In 1948, Marinko became a Czechoslovak champion in doubles event. On club level, he won one Czechoslovak League title.
