Alexey Smirnov was born 9 October, 1977 in Togliatti, Soviet Union (now Russia).
He participated in three Olympic Games (2004, 2008, 2012). In 2005, Smirnov won the Europe Top 16 tournament. On national level, he is a 10-time Rusian champion – 6 times in doubles and 4 times in singles event. On professional circuit, Smirnov has won one doubles title.
